A Touch of Fiji – Gathering on 12 May         Bula-Vinaka
back to top

What a wonderful event the last Gathering was. We were inspired, challenged and joined together in meaningful worship with about 50 beautiful Fijians from the Parramatta area led by Rev Veitinia Waqaba. Rev Immanuel Reuben from Fiji brought us the Fourth Day talk by DVD. He showed us some local farming footage to help in our understanding of the culture. Immanuel has attended Walks here and will be the key leader in establishing Emmaus in Fiji . His wife Grace and Sera who attended Walks in Sydney gave testimony to how the Walk to Emmaus brought inspiration and growth to their Christian walk.

Immanuel concluded his talk by referring to how meaningful Candelighting is as part of the Emmaus experience. Immediately after the talk the Parramatta Fijian young people brought us an action song meditation - with candles in their hands and the church lights off - it was very moving! And we didn't know or plan it!

Taking Emmaus to Fiji - like any new beginning it can't just happen! You as part of the Sydney Community can help make it happen, through prayer, support and gifts.

Women's Walk #110 Report back to top

Our 3rd Training Day at South Turramurra was very successful.
A very committed team was present and all enjoyed the four talks presented on the day. Please pray for more pilgrims for both walks.
Our 4th and last Training Day is on June 9th at Turramurra Uniting Church, followed by a Gathering and Commissioning.

There are still many vacancies on the kitchen roster for the next two walks. Please put your name down to help and be a blessing to the pilgrims and team as you serve in the kitchen. Check the web for times and email me on kitchen@sydneyemmaus.org.au or phone 9452 3793

Sponsoring

The next MENS WALK 28 June to 1 July and WOMENS WALK 12 to 15 July are fast approaching and we need Applications to make the Walks a reality. The Teams have formed and are training eagerly anticipating two great Walks. We need YOU to Sponsor – talk to and encourage the people whom you feel would benefit from the Walk experience. If you haven't sponsored before launch out into a new and rewarding experience. Again some folk from Fiji will attend as pilgrims and be on team. The Sydney Community Board has entered into this venture and we need support from the whole community.

If you need help with what to do as a sponsor ring or email the Registrar –

AGAPE - Gifts of Love

Just a friendly reminder to all the Reunion groups and Emmaus community people that the walks are coming up fast on:

28 th June – 1 st July 2007 Men's Walk # 109

12 th – 15 th July 2007 Women's Walk # 110

We need agape, so let's get our fingers busy and overwhelm the pilgrims with God's love. Remember how some of the agape touched you in some way during your walk?

Reunion groups please try to make about 4 different types of agape if you can. At least 50 pieces of
each agape are needed for each walk, so that no one misses out. All contributions are welcome!

I would appreciate if you could let me know what agape you are doing and how many items as soon as possible.

Agape can be delivered to me before the walk or no later than Thursday night of the walk in the Prayer Chapel at the Conference Centre.

Overseas Agape back to top

As reported in the last Newsletter an exciting request for letter Agape and prayer support was for Men's Walk to Emmaus #1 in The Czech Republic held 24 to 27 May. Team members were from the USA , 1xNorway, 1xSlovakia, and The Czech Republic. 15 Pilgrims were mostly Ministers. I look forward to news on how the Walk went. Women's Walk will be later in the year.

Maybe next year Emmaus Communities across the world will join with us in supporting Walk #1 in Fiji.

It never ceases to amaze me how Emmaus Communities across the world support and encourage each other. Letter Agape is so varied and meaningful.
